A Modle A Day!

Time For A Spin!
Only part of the other day was 'Kid less'! Grandpa finally pulled his Ford Model A out of the garage to take it for a spin. Grandpa towed this car up the old Alaska highway from Minnesota when they first moved up here over 50 years ago. Haley was pretty excited about riding in the trundle seat and Kai loved the archaic suspension system and the horn beep sound that is similar to his toy car. Grandpa was happy and proud about allot of things that day!

More Carrots Please!

Another Day At Grandma and Grandpa's House
We had an invite from the grandparents to come and visit today. It had been a while since they had seen the kids. Three days I think. Haley had her fill of killing slugs and looking for worms with Grandma and Kai walked around with Grandpa and picked every last ripe raspberry on the bushes. Haley dug up some carrots and potatoes to bring home that she had planted earlier this spring. Grandma is washing up all the goodies that she sent home with us. Kai is growing new teeth and has been loudly miserable about it so we all took turns at distracting him with his favorite thing: Walking. Assisted of course!

Time For A Wake Up Call

Every morning our phone rings. It usually rings earlier than any of us would like. But usually it is the best call of the day and we all look for it and enjoy it. Sometimes it is a quick 2 minutes and other days it can be, well, rather long.... Who is it? Grandpa of course! Often, he calls to check in on how Ern is doing when he is out of town. Always, he includes a few questions and comments about the kids. Quite usually, there is some topic about family, to do projects, or politics. If the kids are awake they each get their own conversation with grandpa and the same things are addressed - on kid level of course. Kai loves him and is so pleased to get his phone time. He smiles extra big for him and he has started to giggle talk and grunt back to grandpa. Today the kids were still asleep when the morning 'Wake Up Call' came. All of the above topics were addressed. Extra time spent on the value of family. Basically he said what he often says, in the blink of an eye the kids are grown and in the blink of an eye you are gone. Family and kids are the only thing you leave behind in this world and there is no time to waste.
Tonight he grilled dinner for us at his house. He also looked at my potentially broken truck, pushed Haley on the swing, helped her collect ants to put in paper cup houses and fed her worms. He toted Kai around the yard to show him every thing (it's a very big yard), he let him play with a very pointy fork, and he fed him lots of watermelon. "In the blink of an eye..."
-I would never blink again if I could-

Three Peas In A Pod

A Good Day For A Boat Ride
Today was Haleys first true big boat ride. She was pretty excited for a big adventure and needless to say - - Grandpa was very proud to have her along (with her cast and all)!

I brought a tarp for the wind and chance rain shower but ended up propping it up for a spot of shade from the sun. In a nut shell - it was a very nice day for all of us!

I Think I Can I Think I Can

She Could And She Did! She helped to can lots of moose burger at Grandma and Grandpas house. All the meat gets cooked, placed in cans that are sealed in a pressure canner for a few hours. The canned meat will be used through out the year at fish camps, cabin trips and hunting season. This was Haley's second official year of helping. She makes her Grandpa very proud!
