Old Hat For Some And Brand New For Others

Kai's First Time Blue Berry Picking
It was not all fun and roses! Kai was not happy to be strapped in the pack on the way up Arctic Valley Mountain today but he was fine as soon as he was on the top and able to stand on his own two legs. Haley on the other hand was a mountain climbing animal. She took no breaks and kept up a good pace from the parking lot all the way to the top. She is a pro at finding berries and loves it.
Kai had his first turn and we were all excited to see him plopped down in the middle of the patch working his pudgy little fingers through the thick of it to pick his own berries and eat them on his own. Are they ripe you may wonder? Close but really they still need at least a week. The early ones make great jam, especially when they are mixed with a few of last years berries. That is what Haley and I did with them today and it turned out pretty tasty!
Kai was through with luxury riding in the pack and opted to walk down the mountain almost the
whole way. We wish he could do it on his own! Ern and I took turns
stooping low so that he could have the pleasure of walking down. Haley ran past us most of the way down testing out her budding 'mountain runners legs' and kept asking us to "catch up". I imagine we will be hearing that allot for the rest of our lives!

Shoot, the berries are out? We were up there on Friday afternoon and I didn't even look, since I figured it was still too early. Dang!

Honestly you did not miss much! Give it at least one more week! We will be looking for you!
