What more can I say about Haley and her desire to work and be a part of things. She takes her jobs very seriously and rarely quits her job until everyone else is done with their jobs. She is still very interested in nature and biology and has been anxious to catch a fish and look at its heart and eat it for dinner. Ern cut a heart out of a caught salmon for her to examine and she discovered that if she rubbed the heart that it would still beat in her hand. After several minutes of watching the heard thumb on her hand looking like a lively juicy fat slug she decided it was time to rinse it off and sprinkle a few spices on it and put it on the grill for dinner. It was the first thing she ate when we sat down and reported that she could not wait to catch another one.
This year we canned smoked salmon but also canned uncooked raw salmon also. We used Tony Hollis's family recipe that calls for a clove of garlic, three green chillies, a pinch of salt and a table spoon of olive oil. It makes a great salmon dip and is also good for tuna salad style sandwiches or salmon patties.
