Sending Him Off With Love

A hair cut and a trim job has been incorporated as a "must do" ritual that happens when Ern plans to be away for three weeks or more. Haley takes this job very seriously. She is proud of her value and significance in being an important part of helping him to get ready to go. This is just one of the many rituals that Ern has naturally and intuitively created for her. Each task helps to ease her sadness about his looming departure and turns the "getting ready" process into something to look forward to. He is always busy, but has a knack for finding threads of time for the kids that seamlessly weave into the things that need to get done. He lives very much in the present but this creates timeless and cherished memories for our family as a result.
