A Day of Adventure

My nephew Roman and I had a great day yesterday. It was our first big hike in the mountains in a long time. Roman was in great 'soccer shape' and made the start look easy. I thought I might die on the first few steps of incline but put mind over matter and got into the swing of things. We encountered a bit of everything from rain to sleet to snow to sun... Ern sent us out with a map and GPS with coordinates and I still managed to make things more difficult than they needed to be but it all just added to the adventure for the day. Roman managed to find all the antlers while I did my own hunt to find the GPS that fell out of my pocket as I was whacking through the brush. Luna helped him find the last antler that a porky pine was gnawing on. Luna won the battle for the antler but lost the fight and got a face full of quills! We were all glad to pick and climb our way out of the snow covered pass and head home! We are on our way to the vet this morning to get the last of the quills pulled out. She is a good little antler hunter and hopefully she will find a few more this year to cover the cost of the vet bill that she will have today!! Roman also had a close encounter with a very angry momma moose with her new baby calves. The momma made a serious enough threat toward Roman that he dropped his 65 pound pack with antlers and ran with his bear spray ready in hand. 'All in All'- it was a good day.......
